Polo: The first battle was ended with the failure of the Lancaster. Duke Richard controlled the royal family again. In 1459, Queen Margaret helped the Lancaster clear the York away from the parliament, which lead to a new battle. Under the leadership of Henry VI, the army defeated the York’s army and Duke Richard became a fugitive in France. In June next year, Edward, Richard’s son, went back to Britain with his army and captured the king. Queen Margaret made a surprise attack and killed Richard. Edward set up the York Dynasty and became King Edward IV after defeating the Lancaster. Queen Margaret fled to Scotland. At this stage we can put a period to the war of Roses.

　　Polo: The second period was a result of the internal contradictions among the York. Count Warwick wanted to control Edward IV because he had rendered meritorious service to the new dynasty. But the king wanted to weaken the power of the nobles. Warwick aligned with Margaret and attacked the king. Henry VI again became king, but lost his crown once more to Edward after the battle of Tewkesbury in 1471. The Yorkists held power until Richard III lost his throne to the Lancastrian Henry Tudor. Henry Tudor married into the House of York. This personal union ended the conflict, and a new famous dynasty, the Tudors, emerged.
